A cornerstone of the Hill's Healthy Weight Challenge is providing a week's worth of food to a shelter pet for every pound of weight lost by dogs participating in the challenge. The food will be donated to shelters that meet Hill's strict criteria for animal welfare and where possible, to a shelter near the participating Healthy Weight Challenge clinic.
The donation is based on the amount of food needed weekly to feed an average dog of 40 pounds based on standard feeding recommendations. This equals just over four pounds of food per week.
